spin a yarnAbout FoxFire Holler Farms

OUR HISTORY:

Located in Warrensville, our farm was first purchased in the early 1900s by Elihue J. and Bina Weaver, who farmed and brought up five children on the land. Their fourth child, Allen J Weaver, and his wife, Pollie, purchased the family farm in 1962. Weaver Orchards began the same year their first child, Nancy, was born- 1965. In 1977, a flood damaged nearly all of the farm equipment. Between the years of 1983 to 2003 part of the land was leased to various Weaver relatives.

In the fall of 2001, Nancy and her husband, Larry Hoffman, moved their own brood of five children back home and began rehabilitating the farm. With the discovery of foxfire on the land, the farm name was changed once more to Foxfire Holler Farms. They began their farm with three young Rambouillet ewes and the farm hasn’t stopped growing since.

The Hoffman’s opened Spin a Yarn in the fall of 2006 and have been providing fresh farm-raised meats, quality yarns, and locally made handcrafts to the North Carolina High Country.

All of our meat is naturally raised in Ashe County, NC and processed in a USDA-inspected facility.

Spin a Yarn was created to fill the need to market the products of Foxfire Holler Farm during the winter when the Ashe County Farmers Market wasn't open. Our family offered locally produced wool yarns as well as naturally raised, USDA inspected lamb, beef and pork from our farm.

As the demand grew, we expanded to carry other local farmers’ products, including handcrafts and needlework. Located on the Backstreet in downtown West Jefferson, we offer classes for beginners to advanced crafters as well as being a great place to sit and indulge your favorite fiber addiction.
